Essay on Save Water Save Life for Students in English

Essay on save water save life: When it comes to water, all living beings depend on it. It should be noted that around 71% of Earth’s surface is covered with water and out of which only 3% of the available water is freshwater. The water in rivers and lakes are not just useful for humans; they’re also equally important for the animals and plant life in the vicinity. The plant thus provides us with another life-saving element called ‘Oxygen’. Hence water is an integral part of our ecosystem, we have to save water to save our life. This essay will be a complete guide on how we can save water to save our environment.

Why is water important?

Water is important because it is the lifeblood of all living beings. It is needed for plants, animals and humans to survive. Moreover, the planet earth is passing through the crisis of Climate Change. The present world is water-stressed, and all the living creatures are suffering from it. Pure water is essential for human beings and the entire ecosystem.

Effects of Water Shortage

The effects of water shortage are wide-ranging. Water scarcity is directly linked to higher rates of poverty, food and energy insecurity, and human rights violations. In some regions, water scarcity is exacerbated by social, economic and environmental factors, including climate change and pollution. One out of six people worldwide are deprived of access to safe drinking water and about two billion people lack access to adequate sanitation, according to the United Nations. Now if we move our focus from human beings to other living creatures and on nature, we will find that the water shortage can cause the extinction of several plant and animal species and be able to bring a significant decline in biodiversity.

What can we do to conserve water?

It takes 1,000 gallons of water to produce one ton of grain, and agriculture uses 80% of the world’s fresh water supply. This is just one example of why water conservation is so important.

Water is one of the most essential resources on Earth. As the population continues to grow and water resources dwindle, hence water conservation is necessary to maintain the ecosystem. If the world was to lose only 10% of its water supply, it would be impossible to maintain the ecosystem. Humans are not the only ones who need water; plants, animals, and even bacteria need it as well. If we do not start conserving water, we will eventually have no water left and our ecosystem will collapse. We must start conserving water now before it is too late.

There are mainly three ways which will help us to conserve water.

  • Afforestation: Afforestation has several benefits. Afforestation maintains the groundwater and prevents soil erosion. Fresh groundwater is beneficial for the agricultural sector. In rural areas, people highly depend on groundwater for drinking purposes.
  • Strict laws to stop uncontrolled deforestation: The world’s population is growing fast and so are the pollution levels. The water pollution in cities is reaching new heights every day. New industries are being set up every day, sometimes illegally occupying the larger areas of forests, which leads to deforestation. The systems like Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is also being diluted in order to help the industrialists. The actions will have long term damage to the ecosystems we are living in. In order to protect the environment, stringent and well-regulated laws are essential. Policymakers should focus on making laws that will prohibit illegal activities in eco-sensitive zones.
  • Recycling of water: Recycling of water can be done in various ways like in the agriculture and irrigation sector, groundwater replenishment, potable water supplies, industrial processes, and environmental restoration. In the agricultural sector, the recycling of water helps to prevent harm to plants and soils, maintain food safety, and protect the health of farmworkers. Although we cannot do something about the rain and snow, we can recycle and reuse water by taking rainwater off the roof and into the ground. We can also collect and reuse water from the toilet. The more water we can recycle and reuse, the better off we will be.
  • What is the difference between freshwater and seawater?

There are 3% of all the water on Earth and 97% of it is in the oceans. Freshwater is usually found on the earth’s surface, in rivers, lakes, glacier water, rainwater etc. Freshwater has a higher concentration of oxygen. While seawater comes from the oceans. Seawater is saltier than freshwater. Seawater has a salinity of around 35 parts per thousand. Freshwater, on the other hand, has a salinity of around 3 parts per thousand.

Conclusion: Save Water Save Life Essay

Before we reach a conclusion of the Essay on save water save life, let’s have a look at the report of the World Bank. World Bank published a report called ‘High and Dry: Climate Change, Water and the Economy’. In this report, the World Bank warns that the countries facing severe water scarcity are likely to face a 6 per cent fall in their GDP by 2050s.

Save Water Conclusion: There has been intense financial pressure on irrigated agriculture and the agriculture sector due to the continued urbanization and industrialization in various parts of our planet. The unwillingness of the federal governments to finance costly new water conservation policies has hit our environments to a large extent.
