Major Sources Of Renewable Energy

Renewable energy in the UAE is a form of energy collected from sources replenished naturally on a human timescale. These resources include wind, water movement, geothermal heat, and sunlight. Each has its unique characteristics and benefits. Using these energy sources to generate electricity can be a beneficial alternative energy source for your home or business.


Biomass is a natural resource used to produce electricity and heat a building. It can also be used for industrial purposes by producing biofuels. It can be derived from various sources, including wood, agricultural waste, and landfill gas. It is a widely used fuel and is often the preferred choice in rural communities.

Geothermal power:

Geothermal power is a renewable energy resource that can power domestic and commercial applications. In 2020, geothermal energy was expected to generate 225 TWh of energy worldwide. More than half of this energy will be generated as electricity, and the rest will be used to produce heat. The technology for tapping deep geothermal resources is advancing rapidly. Geothermal energy can be used to heat food and water. Humans have been exploiting geothermal energy for thousands of years. Currently, geothermal power plants are being built around the world, and there are over 60 in the UAE.

Solar energy:

Solar energy is a major renewable energy source that can be used for various purposes, including heating and cooling. It uses solar cells made from silicon or other materials to generate electricity. Solar systems can be installed locally and power entire neighborhoods, or they can be installed at large solar farms to supply power to thousands of homes. Solar farms can also be installed on floating structures in bodies of water to make the most efficient use of available space.

The UNFCCC is committed to reducing carbon emissions and is working toward this goal. According to recent statistics, solar capacity is expected to reach 714 GWe by 2020, an increase of about 50% from 2018. In 2018, solar capacity accounted for 562 TWh of electricity. Some major players in climate change have committed to installing solar and wind power capacities of at least 380 GWe each by 2030.
