Indus Water Treaty (IWT) gives permission to India to use only 20 percent of the total water carried by the Indus river.
While Pakistan had challenged the Kisanganga project citing the provisions of the Indus Waters Treaty,1960. The International Court of Arbitration at the Hague ruled in India’s favour in 2013 but also asks India to maintain minimum water flow at the rate of 9 cubic meter/sec in Pakistan territory.
