What is a Pingback in WordPress?

Pingbacks are also like trackbacks, that is, in pingbacks also a notification is sent to other bloggers. The only difference between them is that the trackback can be fake because it is not necessary that the sender has written anything related to your post in real or linked your post.

The chances of pingback being fake are very less, so bloggers use pingbacks instead of using trackbacks.

A backlink is called as a pingback in WordPress language. It can be any of the below:

  1. A backlink you receive from an external site to your content or
  2. An internal link, you have created to your own posts.

In either case, you/owner of the blog/ admin needs to approve the pingback for the linking to become active.

You may use pingback to let other bloggers know that you've linked to their content on your site. If the other blogger or author's website supports pingbacks, they will receive information that you have linked to their content. They can then decide whether or not to include your link on their website.

Pingbacks on your site may or may not display an extract of material from the other person's blog, depending on how your WordPress theme is set.

In WordPress, a pingback is a type of comment that is created when another WordPress blog links to one of your blog posts. The pingback will appear in your comments section and will notify you that another blog has linked to your post. This feature allows for easy discovery and tracking of links between blogs.
