Optical zoom is available in both digital and film cameras, while digital zoom is only available on digital cameras.
Optical zoom is much more expensive than digital zoom.

Digital zoom has a significant impact on image quality, whereas optical zoom causes almost no quality loss.

Digital zoom uses only a software process, whereas optical zoom uses a hardware process to zoom the image.

There is no correlation between optical zoom and the resolution of a photo, as optical zoom just enlarges the entire image or shot to a certain extent. Whereas digital zoom crops a portion of the image and magnifies it back in size. Due to which the quality of the photo is reduced as compared to the original photo.

Optical zoom is a true zoom, in which the lens or lens element moves and the focus range of the camera is changed whereas digital zoom is not a true zoom, it is just an extrapolation of some part of the camera sensor.
