The first thing that should come into your mind before you hang any wall art is where to hang it. Above the bed, most bedrooms have the ideal location for canvas wall art. But, it can also be placed at other locations such as a side wall, over a dresser, or beside a window.

When deciding on the location, try to imagine where your eyes stop when you first walk into a room. You don’t want the wall art to dominate the room but complement the room by making it more beautiful. For instance, the landscape wall art can be placed opposite the bed, they will provide a calming view to the room.

Make sure the wall art complements the arrangement of the furniture. When hanging artwork above the bed, avoid having it cover the headboard and instead have it be a size smaller than the headboard. If you have a vintage or ornate bed, then you should complement them with vintage wall art.

Choosing a theme for your wall art for your bedroom will help to maintain coherency and order in your home. You might wish to concentrate on such themes as landscape paintings or flower paintings since they will make the atmosphere more calming. On the other hand, abstract wall art gives the room an urban and rebellious feel. Vintage wall art is also trending as it gives the room warmth and personality.

After selecting a theme, then you should go for a set of colors that will blend with the current interior of your bedroom, including the bedding, curtains, and wall color. For instance, soft blue and green landscape paintings will be ideal for a minimalist bedroom, while abstract paintings are suitable for a contemporary room.

The size of the canvas is of the essence in the question of balance. Not large enough and the artwork becomes inconspicuous in the room. If it is too large, then it can dominate the area, and this is not what we want to achieve.

The general guideline is that if you are hanging wall art above the bed then it should ideally be two-thirds the width of the bed. For instance, if you are using your queen-sized bed, your canvas wall art should be of size 36 to 48 inches. When composing from several small parts, align them in a way that their width in total has the same dimensions as a large piece.

If you want to be a little more risky, you can even combine pieces of different dimensions to create a gallery wall. Flowers wall art should be accompanied by landscape wall art and abstract wall art to add dimension to the walls.

It is very important to have a design before you start hanging; this will help you to know where to place every item. Arrange your wall art on the floor or use painter’s tape to plan the design on the wall. It will also help you visualize the piece once it is hung since the perspective is different.

When hanging more than one canvas, space them with about 2 to 3 inches between each piece. In arranging the pictures on the gallery wall, try to have an odd number of frames and vary the size of the frames, but the pictures should be related.

A symmetrical design is much more formal and would be suitable for the traditional styles of the bedrooms. For example, placing two similar flower wall art on both sides of the bed gives the room a proper order. That is why an asymmetrical design is more versatile and is suitable for modern or eclectic bedroom designs. Attach a big vague painting on the wall and then complement it with a couple of landscape paintings.

One of the biggest mistakes that people make is placing the wall art too high. In general, the centre of the artwork should be at eye level, which is, as a rule, at a height of 57–60 inches. In the bedroom, though, you might want to drop it a notch or two if you are placing it over the bed.

If you are installing a gallery, make sure to choose the biggest picture and place it right in the middle at eye level and other pieces should surround it.

Finally, make sure the wall art complements everything else in your bedroom design. Choose colors, textures, and styles that are opposite or contrasting and harmonize them well. In a bedroom with no particular color scheme, a great abstract wall art piece can be used as a statement while muted tones in landscape wall art or flower wall art can be soothing.
