Rooted in Italy and crafted for the modern man: Inside Lamborghini's long-standing legacy

Since its inception in 1963 in northern Italy, Lamborghini has been proudly Italian in its making. On the road, they embody an opulent lifestyle—the pulse of modern ambition forged in carbon fiber and set to the rhythm of a bustling city. Their supercars, crafted for the modern man, advocate sustainability, heritage, and an affluent lifestyle. From the Urus, the brand’s first automobile that brings together the features of a super sports car with the functionality of an SUV, to the Revuelto, the very first high-performance electrified vehicle, Lamborghini is fusing Italian DNA with innovation and eco-conscious efforts.

We speak to Francesco Scardaoni, Region Director Automobili Lamborghini Asia Pacific, to understand the brand’s Italian origin, its sustainability initiatives, design language and more.

Actors, business owners, sports people, and some of the most influential people in India own a Lamborghini. What makes it a top choice for today’s modern individual?

We offer a complete experience to our customers. Lamborghini is more than a super sports car—it’s a symbol of personal ambition and bold individuality. Whether it’s a celebrated actor, entrepreneur or athlete, Lamborghini is chosen for what it represents: high performance, bespoke design and an emotional connection. With the Ad Personam personalisation program, customers can customise their vehicle to create one-of- a-kind masterpieces, each reflecting its own style.

What kind of technological upgrades has Lamborghini introduced recently that set it apart?

Our cars are now hybrid. And for Lamborghini, hybridisation does not mean compromise. It means enhanced comfort, higher horsepower, and lower emissions. The Revuelto or the Temerario are not plug-in hybrid cars but high-performance electrified vehicles. The hybrid system and the electric motors on the front axle have allowed us to set a new level of freedom on the torque, which makes cars more stable and improves performance.

How do you aim to create meaningful conversations about sustainability and environmental impact?

Sustainability is not a new area of focus for Lamborghini. This year, we celebrate our 10th year of maintaining carbon neutrality at our production plant in Italy. Through various initiatives, we’ve built a plant that significantly reduced CO2 emissions. The aim is to create a completely eco-friendly supply chain—from logistics and production to the life of the products and the services. We also started a new project—recycling carbon fi bre, along with other initiatives that focus on sustainability.

Lamborghini is proudly Italian. How does the brand continue to pay homage to its Italian heritage?

From design and development, to the production of carbon fiber and engines, everything is managed at our headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese with a comprehensive approach. The facility is a benchmark in sustainable automotive production: carbon neutral, highly digitised, and optimised for efficiency. Beyond production, Lamborghini remains strongly connected to the Emilia-Romagna region. The brand is deeply involved in local initiatives and communities, giving back to the place where it was born. Its presence in the Motor Valley, an internationally recognised hub of automotive excellence, further elevates Italy’s global reputation in the industry. Italian materials are also central to Lamborghini’s identity. The brand upcycles its leather into exclusive accessories, reinforcing its link to Italian quality and sustainability.
