Planning a trip and not sure what the best things to do in Bali are? You’re not alone. This island has so many options that it can feel overwhelming, and I get it. From beach clubs to temples, waterfalls to food markets, Bali really has it all. To make it easier, here’s a list of the top 5 places to visit in Bali that give you a good mix of culture, fun, and a little bit of adventure.
1. Spend a Day at a Beach Club
If you’re searching for easy-going activities to do in Bali, beach clubs are a must. Canggu and Seminyak are full of them, with infinity pools, ocean views, and menus that combine local with international favorites. Some even stay open until late, turning into mini-nightclubs once the sun sets. It’s one of the must-do things in Bali if you want to see the island’s modern social scene.
Most beach clubs work on a minimum spend system, especially if you want a bed by the pool. Bring sunscreen, go early for the best seats, and just enjoy the chill vibes and good music.
2. Walk Through Ubud’s Rice Terraces
When people ask about Bali places to visit, rice terraces in Ubud almost always make the list. Tegallalang is the most famous, and you’ll see plenty of travelers walking the paths or flying high on one of the jungle swings. It’s green, peaceful, and very “Bali postcard” material.
For fewer crowds, Jatiluwih Rice Terraces are a fantastic alternative and part of the UNESCO World Heritage list. I will personally choose this one just because I can enjoy the view in a more calm setting. After your walk, grab a drink at one of the nearby cafés; you’ll thank yourself for the break. Exploring the rice terraces is easily one of the top things to do in Bali for first-timers, so don’t miss it!
3. Watch Sunset at Tanah Lot Temple
No guide to Bali things to do would be complete without Tanah Lot Temple, I can say it out loud. This sea temple sits on a rock in the middle of the ocean and looks incredible, especially at sunset. Even if you’re not big on temples, the view alone makes it worth the trip.
Tickets cost around IDR 60,000 (about $4). You can’t go inside the temple itself, but the cliffside paths give you plenty of spots for photos. Stick around for dinner at one of the nearby restaurants. The view pairs nicely with a plate of nasi goreng! Thank me later.
4. Go Chasing Waterfalls
If you’re making a bucket list of things to do in Bali, chasing waterfalls should be on it. Head to the north, where you’ll find waterfalls like Sekumpul and Gitgit. Swimming under a waterfall surrounded by jungle? Sounds perfect to me. Easily one of the best things to do in Bali if you want a little adventure.
Wear good shoes and bring a towel; the paths can get slippery. Entry fees are cheap, and the drives through the countryside make the trip even better. It’s a full-day activity, but totally worth it.
5. Try the Local Food at a Night Market
While people often talk about the best restaurants in Nusa Dua or trendy cafés in Canggu, the real food adventure happens at night markets. These local spots are packed with satay skewers, fried noodles, soups, and sweet treats like fried bananas. It’s not just about eating a meal, though. It’s more like an experience that shows you everyday Bali life, the real ones.
Check out Gianyar Night Market or Sanur Night Market if you’re nearby. Bring cash and follow the crowds to the busiest stalls; that’s usually where the good stuff is. Street food is one of those simple joys that belong on every list of activities to do in Bali, agree?
