What Parents Should Know About Abacus Classes Online

Abacus Math classes is a wonderful course for those kids who are keen to innovate in today’s competitive world. Abacus classes help you stay ahead of your peers and give you a clear edge over your peers. However before enrolling your child into Abacus you must be aware of some key facts and best practices so that you can make the right decision. My son completed his Abacus training of approx. 2 years sometime back and based on my experience, I am glad to share these best practices with all fellow parents.

Abacus Classes Online – Parents Must Know the Right Age

The recommended age group for enrolling kids into Abacus course is between 5-15 years, the reason being that kids younger than 5 years do not really understand the concept of numbers which is a prerequisite for learning Abacus. And if kids are older than 15 years then they typically lose the interest in solving basic arithmetic questions of single digit since they have reached to much advanced Maths topics in their school curriculum. An important point to know about Abacus training is that irrespective of the age group, every child will need to start with basics of single digit addition and subtraction since Abacus is like learning a new language of Maths. Gradually and slowly the child will move to advanced calculations like double digit addition, or advanced multiplication and division.

How should Parents look for the Best Abacus Classes Online

This is the most common question which parents are confused about. While online education has made life easier for everyone, the biggest challenge is how to find a good Abacus teacher online. Well actually it's not that difficult if we do the research judiciously. Here are some key tips:

Explore within your friend circle or community for reference of a good teacher. This is the easiest and smartest way to ensure you find a good teacher, however you must ensure that you have yourself seen the effective Abacus results in the students from whom you are taking a reference and are fully convinced with those results.

Search online and you will get plenty of options. Now the trick is to find the good tutors. One guaranteed way is to look for Google reviews of the students and parents who have already enrolled with that teaching academy. Google reviews are the most trusted source of feedback that cannot be tampered with, and most teaching academies display them prominently on the home page of their web portal.

You must talk to the trainer who will actually train the kids. Do not enroll just after speaking to the counselors. Interacting with the trainer will give you a great opportunity to assess if you find positive vibes to go with the trainer or should explore more options.

How did I decide? When I was looking for the best Abacus classes online, I decided to go with Mathcruise on the basis of two most important factors. Firstly, they have great Google reviews and secondly, their chief trainer gives you all the required information in the counselling session. She never rushes or pushes for enrollment, but ensures that as a parent we are comfortable and we understand the basics of Abacus course, and all our questions are answered. She does not paint a rosy picture but sets the right expectations that parents will also need to support the child in keeping them motivated and there may be some difficult times when the child may need some extra time and support.

Mathcruise offers physical Abacus classes in Pune as well and has many meritorious students from that region. And in case you are residing outside of Pune, then you have an option to enroll into their online batches.

Abacus Classes for Kids – How Much Time Does the Course Take?

When I interacted with Mathcruise chief trainer, she very clearly communicated to me that the full Abacus course is around 27 months, which is divided into 9 levels. They have beautifully defined the Abacus course curriculum on their website that gives a clear insight into how the course is structured.

The Mathcruise trainer also mentioned that it is not necessary for every child to complete the full Abacus training. The minimum time she recommends is 4-5 levels which is equal to roughly 12-15 months (since every level takes approximately 3 months). Once a child completes 4-5 levels he can easily do the double digit addition and subtraction, and also develop a good hold on division and multiplication questions. At this point they can take a break from the Abacus course, or decide to continue to advanced levels where decimals are introduced and more complex multiply and division questions are covered. It totally depends on the interest of the child and whether those topics will be used in his school or not.

How Can Parents Help Their Kids in Abacus Course

Motivate the kids – by appreciating them in front of their friends and relatives when they solve the questions correctly using Abacus

Encourage the kids to practice Abacus questions: To introduce the fun element, parents can play a game where both parents and kids try to solve the same arithmetic question. For example, once a child completes 4-6 months of Abacus classes then he can easily solve single digit calculations of up to 10-12 numbers. So parents can compete with the kids where kids will be able to solve these questions much faster and accurately, and this will give them a sense of joy. Here are some examples of questions that kids can easily do after initial Abacus training.

Conclusion

Remember that online classes are a boon and as long as parents do the focused research in finding the right trainer, Abacus online classes is a great course for all kids in the age group of 5 - 15 years. Embark on the Abacus journey with patience and do the regular practice (daily 10 minutes), and you will see that your child gets the lifetime gift of confidence and Math will become his favorite subject pretty soon.
