Interview with Indian Lifestyle Blogger – Deena Pinto from Skinny girl diariez
1. Can you please tell us a little bit about yourself and your Blog?
I am currently a full time lifestyle blogger and been in this space for about 2.5 years now. I love to click my own images and video, edit and post them as natural and real content.
My blog is a reflection of who I am, and the name Skinnygirldiariez sprung out from my own life growing up as a skinny kid. Again, to reiterate, and in no way disrespect anyone – Skinny Girl is what I was called since I was a child, my parents (you will get this if you are Indian) tried really hard for me to gain some weight. I was taken to every doctor there is, to help me gain weight. Alas, the universe had its own plans, I developed love for food, I ate and gave guys a run for their money. Though, I love to eat, I never really gained weight. To be honest, being called Skinny just stuck, at school or in college. I hated it all those years, however, as I grew older, I got complimented for being a certain size and weight! I figured use this long term negative body shaming, name calling to my advantage. I grew up stronger and for what is worth, focused on eating right and staying fit and healthy. Never been to the gym yet, guess I turned that negative side into a positive one for sure. Now I know how to balance and eat right for a healthier me. For those that know me – Yes I do eat, and a lot!
What started off as a means to writing and maintaining a journal in the form of a blog. Turned out to be a Lifestyle Blog. That name SkinnyGirlDiariez stuck. I took the attitude of gratitude approach to life. Trust me to keep focusing on the negative things can be very taxing. But with time, I learn to let go of negativity. I began to focus on one good thing, a day in my life. This has now become a habit and it’s just a free flow daily process.
2. What did you do before Blogging? What inspired you to start blogging?
I am an Ex GoldmanSachs employee and have about 15 years of work experience under my belt. From corporate life to blogger life. It has been a drastic yet seamless transition.
If you had asked me to describe who I am or what I wanted to be when I grew up, I probably would have said an Air Hostess. For the longest time that I can ever remember, I just wanted to be one, but due to poor eyesight I failed to make the cut. Fast forward to after college, and spending the other half of my career as an Investment Banker. I would have never thought I would still say I would be a Lifestyle Blogger. But here I am!
3. As a blogger, what are the challenges you face? How you overcome it?
The main challenge is getting noticed and invited to the paid campaigns. I just did what I had to do and created my own content with brands I love and posted regularly both on blog and social media channels. In less than 2 years I started getting noticed for my work and originality and I decided to quit my job to pursue this full time. I am single and have no other means of income apart from this. So all I can say is hard work pays off. I still have a long way to go, but being true to self and doing what I love, has helped me tremendously.
4. What would you consider to be your biggest achievement in your journey so far as a Blogger?
Being invited to walk the red carpet with Vivo for the Bollywood star screen awards. It was a surreal moment and I got to walk among the Bollywood stars. Apart from this, getting to work with some major beauty and fashion brands has been the highlight of it all.
5. Have you worked/collaborate with brands? If yes, name few brands you worked with
I have worked with a ton of brands (Fashion, tech, beauty and hospitality). Mac Cosmetics, La Senza, Forever 21, Himalaya, Vivo, Honor, Marriott group of hotels, (starwood chains), Fiama di wills, Engage deo, Google, Soulfull, Licious, Avenue 11, Samsung, Guess, to name a few.
6. What is your primary income source?
7. Top 3 Blogging tools that you would recommend to your readers?
1. Word press - best way to start a blog and easiest to set up and work with.
2. A best photo editing tool - Snap Seed
3. Best smart phone to capture all my content - Google Pixel is my choice but whatever you feel comfortable with learn the phone and its uses especially with photography.
8. One piece of advice that you would like to share with all new bloggers?
Believe in yourself, because waiting for someone to help you to will be a waste of time. Take risks, i quit my job after having a good amount of savings and no one else to back me up. So figure your yearly plan and what is it you wish to gain by becoming a blogger.
9. Finally, what are your thoughts about IndiBlogHub?
This is my first time on this platform. Yet to receive campaigns will comment more once I have worked with you guys.
