Planning a trip to Armenia had been on my mind for a long time, and in 2025, I finally get a chance to make it happen. I wanted a destination with rich history, beautiful landscapes, and unique cultural experiences. After doing some research and suggestions from my friends, I found that Armenia is the best choice for me. Landing in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia was good experience, I immediately felt the warm hospitality of the people. The airport was small but well-organized, and everything from immigration to luggage collection was quick. The moment I stepped outside the airport, I was surprised by looking at beautiful view of Mount Ararat, a majestic snow-capped mountain that dominates the skyline.

I visited in march and the weather in March was cool, making it perfect for sightseeing. As I drove toward the city, I noticed how Yerevan blends modernity with tradition—wide streets, stylish cafes, and busy markets alongside ancient buildings and old Soviet-style architecture.

Top Places I Visited in Armenia

Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, is a city full of history, culture, and vibrant energy. From grand squares to ancient manuscripts and bustling markets, every corner had something unique to offer. Here are some of the places I explored during my trip:

Republic Square – My first stop was Republic Square, which is the central gathering place in Yerevan. The pink-stone buildings surrounding the square looked good, especially at sunset. The atmosphere was good there, with both locals and tourists enjoying the open space, music, and beautiful fountain displays in the evening.

Cascades Complex – One of my favorite places was the Cascades Complex,It is a grand staircase with beautiful sculptures and fountains. Climbing to the top was tiring but worth it—the panoramic view of the city with Mount Ararat in the background was amazing.

Matenadaran- Matenadaran is a must-visit place. This museum houses has some of the world’s oldest manuscripts, and the architecture itself is impressive. Walking through its halls, I felt like I had traveled back in time.

Vernissage Market - A trip to Yerevan isn’t complete without visiting Vernissage Market, It was open-air bazaar where you can find traditional Armenian souvenirs, handmade carpets, jewelry, and artworks. It was the perfect place for me to buy gifts for my friends and family and to experience Armenian craftsmanship.

My Visit to Garni & Geghard

One of the highlights of my trip was a visit to Garni Temple and Geghard Monastery, located about an hour’s drive from Yerevan.

Garni Temple – Garni is the only surviving pagan temple in Armenia, built in the 1st century AD. It reminded me of ancient Greek and Roman architecture. Standing there, surrounded by mountains, I could imagine how grand it must have looked centuries ago.

Geghard Monastery – Just a short drive from Garni is Geghard Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. What makes it unique is that parts of it are carved into the rock. The peaceful atmosphere and the natural surroundings there made that place unforgettable.

Lake Sevan – A trip to Armenia wouldn’t be complete without visiting Lake Sevan, one of the largest high-altitude lakes in the world. The lake’s deep blue water and surrounding mountains create a picture-perfect scene.

Sevanavank Monastery – I climbed up to Sevanavank Monastery, which sits on a hill overlooking the lake. The view was absolutely stunning, and the fresh air made it even more special. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature.

My Favorite Armenian Food

One of the best parts of my trip to Armenia was experiencing its delicious food. Armenian food was rich in flavors, with fresh ingredients, traditional spices, and a mix of Middle Eastern and Eastern European influences. I tried these dishes in the trip:

1. Khorovats – This was one of my favorite dishes! Khorovats is Armenia’s version of barbecue, made with grilled meat, usually pork, lamb, or chicken, cooked over an open flame. The smoky flavor and juicy texture made it more better. It’s often served with fresh vegetables and lavash (thin Armenian bread).

2. Lavash – Speaking of lavash, this thin, soft bread is a staple in Armenian cuisine. It is baked in a traditional underground oven called a tonir, it has a unique texture and flavor. I loved eating it fresh, either with cheese or wrapped around kebabs.

3. Dolma – Dolma is a stuffed grape leaf dish, filled with minced meat, rice, and spices. It’s usually served warm with a side of yogurt. The combination of flavors was so good that I found myself ordering it multiple times during my trip!

4. Gata – For dessert, I absolutely loved Gata, it is traditional Armenian pastry with a slightly sweet, buttery filling. Every region in Armenia has its own version, and I tried a few variations—each one was delicious!

5. Fresh Fish from Lake Sevan – During my visit to Lake Sevan, I had the chance to try grilled trout, freshly caught from the lake. It was seasoned with local herbs and served with roasted potatoes and a simple salad. It was one of the freshest and tastiest meals of my trip.

Looking back, my trip to Armenia was a wonderful experience. I got to see beautiful places and really enjoyed my trip a lot. The country has its special beauty, with its old monasteries, mountains, and friendly people. Every place I visited had something that i loved, making the trip truly enjoyable.
