Early Life

Indira Gandhi was the daughter of India’s first Prime Minister Jawahar Laal Nehru. Inidra was an only child and she grew up in a political environment. After independence, she worked as her father’s assistant witnessed Indian politics very closely, and learned how to run the world’s largest democracy. In the late 50s, Indira became the President of the Indian National Congress and she also led the party in Kerala.

After her father’s death, she was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha and he worked with Prime Minister Laal Bahadur Shastri as an Information And Broadcasting Minister.

The first tenure of Indira Gandhi came as an emergency, after the Laal Bnahadur Shastri’s sudden death the country was in big trouble and it was important to choose a potential leader who could run the country wisely.

It is suggested by some party members to make Indira Prime Minister but some opposed this decision. After the discussion in both wings Indira named the first-ever women Prime Minister of India.
