Indira Gandhi was the daughter of India’s first Prime Minister Jawahar Laal Nehru. Inidra was an only child and she grew up in a political environment. She was born and brought up in Allahabad by her mother and when she turned 2 years old, her parents joined the Independence movement with Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
Indira grew up watching the fight for independence and politics was in her blood. Indira was arrested in 1942 for her participation in the Quit India Movement and that was the first major step toward politics.
After independence, she worked as her father’s assistant witnessed Indian politics very closely, and learned how to run the world’s largest democracy. In the late 50s, Indira became the President of the Indian National Congress and she also led the party in Kerala.
After her father’s death, she was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha and he worked with Prime Minister Laal Bahadur Shastri as an Information And Broadcasting Minister.
The first tenure of Indira Gandhi came as an emergency, after the Laal Bnahadur Shastri’s sudden death the country was in big trouble and it was important to choose a potential leader who could run the country wisely.
It is suggested by some party members to make Indira Prime Minister but some opposed this decision. After the discussion in both wings Indira named the first-ever women Prime Minister of India.
Pay tribute to the fallen, at the assassination spot where Indira Gandhi was got killed by her own bodyguard in 1984. After some dispute and disagreement with the Sikh community, her bodyguard who was A Sikh killed her by sword. After her death, there were huge riots all over India. Lakhs of people were affected by that and her death became one of the most historic moments of Indian politics but in a bad way.
