Are You Allowed to Touch the Net Volleyball

Are you familiar with all the volleyball rules? If not, then let me tell you one of them at least. Yeah, it's the volleyball net touch rule. As a volleyball coach, I can understand the importance of rules in a game, especially volleyball. I would like to paint a real picture of volleyball fun without any complications. As we know, the volleyball net is the main part of play. It divides the court into two halves where the action happens. In volleyball, you are not allowed to touch the net during the game. It means that when the ball is in action on the court your hand, arms, body, and clothes must not touch the net. Whether you are trying to block a shot or to sneak a gentle tap, it plays a big part in every move you make in court.

Know How to NO Touch Rule

Now you might wonder why I can't touch the net whenever I want. Well, there are some reasons for this. Firstly, touching the net can mess up the fairness of the game. If players were allowed to touch push grab or pull the net it would disturb and lead to an unfair game. Pulling the net and running into it can lead to serious injuries that nobody wants. It is straightforward that during the game players should avoid touching the net with their clothes, bodies, and whatever they are wearing. It provides game fun and keeps everyone safe.

When is Touching the Net Considered a Violation

The main thing is that if you touch the net when the ball is in play, it will create a great mess up in the game. It means that if net touching changes the movement of the ball and how the opposite team plays then it will be included in rule violation.

The most important is that when you are in the air and trying to block the move of a player you should be careful not to touch the net. These are the moves when the eyes of everybody are on you and a slight mistake can change the whole layout of the game.

When Incidental Contact Is Okay

Well, hair contact is termed as incidental contact with the net. Everyone does not have short hair. So, it can get in contact with the net accidentally. So, if you get your hair touched with a net, then be calm. You do have not to face any penalty and not be categorized as a game violation.

Secondly, the ball smash rule. Sometimes, the player kicks the ball forcefully and it bends the net and accidentally touches the player’s face. In this situation, it's not your fault, and no violation or penalty you have to pay!

How to Avoid Net Violations

It is not about just following the rules, it's all about enhancing your skills and awareness in court. How can you avoid net contact to keep your game full of fun and strong? Always keep in mind to keep yourself away from the net. It might sound easy. But when the game is on its peak you can lose your track easily. Always check your position when you are about to make a big move.

During practice make visible boundaries that help you to keep yourself away from the net. This will help you to keep your distance from the net. Remembering the strategies of the game in your training can reduce the chance of net contact. Remember one thing, it is all about engaging yourself with rules that carry you from the worst moments of the game. With a lot of practice and awareness, you will find yourself playing confidently near the net, keeping your moves clean and your team strong enough to win.

Consequences of Net Violation

Now we’ll move to the next point about what will happen if a player breaks the rule. There are some consequences of breaking the rules during the game that can affect all of the players. If you touch the net it’s called a violation and the other team will get the point. It does not matter if you are making a good save. Violation of the net touching rule can change the whole game in the favor of the opposite team. This type of violation might not be a big deal. But actually, it is a game of momentum. Losing a single point can change the whole game and the spirit of players too.

If the same player keeps repeating the violation, it may lead to an annoying situation for the team and the player. It is quite hard to learn from mistakes and keep yourself away. But it gives you a positive and supportive vibe.
