IgA nephropathy or Berger’s Disease is a chronic kidney disease which is characterized by deposition of immunoglobulin A ( IgA ) on the glomerular basement membrane causing glomerulonephritis and kidney function impairment. Conventionally, this problem is untreatable and can only be reduced by medications like immunosuppressant, medicines that reduce strain on the kidney, like calcium supplements, sodium bicarbonate ( for metabolic acidosis ), and Blood pressure controlling medicines. A Good kidney-friendly diet may help reduce the symptoms and complications of IgA Nephropathy.

IgA nephropathy in Ayurveda
IgA Nephropathy is considered as an autoimmune disorder.
According to Ayurveda, autoimmune disorder is caused by impaired Agni which generates endotoxins called Ama. The Ama is full of antigen and molecules which mimic the size and shape of Healthy tissues. These Ama Metabolites are attacked by our immune system and the immune system will attack both Ama and the healthy tissues which are imitated by Ama. This is how autoimmune disorders attack Healthy tissues. Also, in autoimmune disease dhatvagni also becomes impaired causing destruction of related dhatus of that agni. It Also causes impairment in srotas also.
Autoimmune disease is related to Dushit pitta dosha which causes inflammation. But pitta does not act alone. Usually pitta is bonded with vata dosha and vata dosha helps pitta to spread very fast like a wildfire. The disease starts from the point which is weak and then spreads to all over the body.
Immunomodulation means decreasing Ama and equalizing jatharagni and dhatu agni is the main key to achieve a healthy body in autoimmune disorders like IgA Nephropathy.

Stages of Treatment of IgA Nephropathy in Ayurveda
1. Deepana and Ama pachana: Ayurvedic medicine and a particular diet is used to increase the digestive power of the gut so that the Ama which is attached to the digestive tract gets digested and eliminated from the body.
2. Equalizing Dhatu Agni ( metabolic processes): Ayurvedic medications like Haritaki, guduchi, Kumari, Amla, guggulu, ashwagandha etc. are used to correct the metabolic processes and reduce the effect of IgA Nephropathy.
3. Medicine that reduces the degeneration of the kidney and increases regeneration of kidney tissues, in ayurveda these medicines are termed as rasayana. The rasayanas for kidney in ayurveda are very effective in fighting chronic kidney disease and providing protection to kidney tissues. Some of the examples are chandraprabha vati, Gokshuradi Guggulu, shatavari, shilajitwadi vati etc.
In Ayurveda accessing your prakriti, vikriti, dosha, dhatu plays a very crucial role in planning the treatment. Ayurvedic formulation is chosen on the basis of dosha and viktriti only, therefore for every patient there may be different treatment protocols even if they have the same disease than others. It is decided only by an experienced ayurvedic Doctor after proper consultation.
IgA nephropathy with ayurvedic treatment at the right time helps you to gain your kidney health again without going for complicated and high cost procedures.
