Does Gulf Air allow Extra Baggage for Students?

Student days are full of mess. Your luggage is much more likely to be overweight, oversized or you may have additional bags with you. In case you are booking a flight with Gulf Air, you may get additional checked baggage in addition to the baggage allowance of your cabin and fare class. A valid student ID of a university or an institution is needed for the free check-in baggage. Gulf Air student extra baggage will be conditional on the route you booked.

• Falcon Gold or Economy Class tickets from Bahrain to a destination and vice-versa - Free check-in baggage allowance.

• On a route network outside Bahrain - No additional allowance.

Do Students on Gulf Air get a Baggage Discount?

Gulf Air student discount is not available on baggage. They will pay for each extra bag. Special baggage fees, oversize and overweight fees on the luggage will also be charged depending on the requirement. An additional baggage allowance for students is given in addition to the baggage allowance of ticket. With each fare class, the baggage allowance of a student increases by 5 kg. Baggage allowance is up to 50 kg in Falcon Gold (business) and 35 kg in Economy. Student extra baggage allowance has been tweaked a little on 27 October, 2024. Here is what student discount rules Gulf Air look like.

• Tickets issued on or after 27 October, 2024 - An additional 10kg will be given on top of the standard baggage allowance.

• Tickets issued before 27 October, 2024. - One additional free check-in bag of up to 23 kg.

• Only currently enrolled students are eligible. – Students will have to show proof of their enrolment in a university.

Is Gulf Air Strict with Baggage?

Gulf Air has restrictions on unconventional baggage. It restricts irregularly shaped baggage, blanket/fabric-wrapped baggage, ball-shaped baggage or bags with long, loose straps. Baggage exceeding 158 cm in dimension will invite special baggage charges. A single bag exceeding 32kg cannot be checked. Many sporting equipment have specific rules. There are packaging instructions you must follow for special baggage as the airline will not take liability for damages. Sporting equipment weight more than 15kg will not be checked free. Here are the rules on a few sporting equipment.

• Bicycles – If it doesn’t exceed 15kg, it will be checked free of charge along with your baggage.

• Scuba diving equipment - Equipment up to 15 kg will be checked free of charge in addition to your baggage.

• Snow Skis - If they are oversized you will pay an oversized baggage fee.
