Express Entry July 2026: What the Latest Draws Mean for Candidates

IRCC held four Express Entry draws on four consecutive days in late July, giving candidates a clear picture of how the system is operating in 2026.

Between January 5 and July 23, 2026, IRCC conducted 42 Express Entry draws and issued 104,616 invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residence. French-language draws alone accounted for 40,500 invitations, making French proficiency one of the strongest pathways for candidates with a competitive but not exceptionally high CRS score.

Here is a closer look at the latest draws and what they could mean for different Express Entry candidates.

Between July 20 and July 23, IRCC conducted four different Express Entry rounds:

Although all four rounds are important, the French-language draw and Skilled Military Recruits draw stand out for different reasons.

July 22 French-Language Draw: 5,000 Invitations at CRS 399

On July 22, IRCC invited 5,000 candidates through its French-language proficiency category. The CRS cut-off was 399.

This was the eighth French-language draw of 2026 and represented a significant drop compared with the previous French-language round held on July 9, when the cut-off was 420.

However, the July 22 draw was not the lowest French-language CRS cut-off of 2026.

The lowest so far was 393 on March 18, while the March 4 draw had a cut-off of 397. Therefore, 399 is best described as the lowest French-language cut-off since March 2026, rather than an all-time or 2026 record low.

French-language Draws Continue to Lead in Accessibility

French-language Express Entry draws have played a major role in Canada's immigration system this year.

Across the eight French-language rounds held in 2026, IRCC issued:

• 8,500 invitations in February
• 5,500 invitations in March
• 4,000 invitations in March
• 4,000 invitations in April
• 4,000 invitations in April
• 4,500 invitations in May
• 5,000 invitations on July 9
• 5,000 invitations on July 22

Together, these rounds account for exactly 40,500 invitations.

That means nearly four out of every ten ITAs issued in 2026 came through French-language draws.

For candidates whose CRS score is somewhere in the 400s, developing French-language skills could therefore make a significant difference. Reaching CLB 7 in French can provide access to a category where recent CRS requirements have been substantially lower than CEC draws.

July 23 Skilled Military Recruits Draw: Only 4 Invitations

Just one day after the French-language draw, IRCC conducted its first-ever Skilled Military Recruits category draw.

Only 4 invitations were issued, with a CRS cut-off of 368.

This was the smallest Express Entry draw since the program launched in 2015.

The tie-breaking rule was based on profiles submitted by June 2, 2026, at 20:11:26 UTC. This shows that even in a very small draw, the date and time a candidate submits their Express Entry profile can matter.

Why Does a Four-Invitation Draw Matter?

Four invitations may appear insignificant compared with a 5,000-invitation French draw. However, the importance of this round lies in the fact that IRCC actually activated a newly introduced category.

The Skilled Military Recruits category was introduced in February 2026. It targets foreign nationals serving in a recognized military abroad who have obtained a job offer with the Canadian Armed Forces.

The July 23 draw shows that IRCC is moving beyond broad categories and is also using some of its narrower, specialized pathways.

For candidates who may qualify under other newly announced categories, this could be an important signal.

Canada's 2026 Express Entry Category Landscape

The Express Entry system now includes 10 active categories.

Recent additions include:

• Physicians with Canadian work experience
• Senior Managers
• Researchers
• Transport occupations
• Skilled Military Recruits

The Physicians with Canadian work experience category was added in December 2025 and produced the lowest CRS cut-off ever recorded in an Express Entry draw — 169 on February 19, 2026.

Senior Managers, Researchers, Transport occupations, and Skilled Military Recruits were added on February 18, 2026.

Another important change is the work-experience requirement. Renewed categories now generally require 12 months of qualifying work experience, compared with six months in 2025.

Meanwhile, the STEM category has not had an Express Entry draw since April 11, 2024, leaving it dormant for more than two years.

CEC Draw: CRS Requirements Remain High

On July 21, IRCC issued 2,000 invitations through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

The CRS cut-off was 516.

Throughout 2026, CEC cut-offs have remained within a relatively narrow range of approximately 507 to 518.

For candidates waiting for CEC scores to fall significantly below 500, the current year's data does not provide much encouragement.

If your CRS score is around 480 and your strategy is simply to wait for a CEC draw to reach that level, it may be worth considering other ways to improve your profile or qualify for a category-based draw.

PNP Draw: 511 Invitations at CRS 744

The July 20 Provincial Nominee Program draw issued 511 invitations, with a CRS cut-off of 744.

At first glance, the cut-off looks much higher than the previous PNP round, which had a CRS requirement of 708 on July 6.

However, there is an important reason for this.

As of July 19, the Express Entry pool contained exactly 511 candidates with CRS scores between 601 and 1,200.

In practical terms, IRCC invited every eligible provincial nominee in that score range.

This demonstrates how the 600-point provincial nomination boost continues to work. Once a candidate receives a provincial nomination, those additional 600 CRS points can place them in a very strong position for a PNP-specific Express Entry draw.

For candidates considering Alberta, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) can therefore be an important pathway. The provincial nomination can add 600 CRS points and significantly improve the candidate's chances of receiving an invitation.

Express Entry Pool Falls to 231,533 Candidates

The Express Entry pool also became slightly smaller during July.

As of July 19, 2026, there were 231,533 candidates in the pool.

That was a decrease of 3,594 candidates compared with the 235,127 candidates recorded on July 5.

The largest concentration remained in the 451–500 CRS range, which contained 72,579 profiles.

The next-largest group was the 401–450 range, with 63,877 profiles.

This concentration helps explain why category-based selection has become increasingly important. A large number of candidates are clustered below the typical CEC cut-off, making it difficult to receive an invitation through a general pathway.

French-language proficiency, provincial nominations, and eligible occupations can therefore provide alternative routes for candidates who may not have a CRS score high enough for CEC selection.

What Should Express Entry Candidates Do Now?

The latest draws show that there is no longer one CRS score that guarantees an invitation.

Your best strategy depends on the category for which you qualify.

If Your CRS Is Between 400 and 507

Rather than relying only on general Express Entry draws, consider whether you can qualify for a category-based selection.

French proficiency is particularly important. Aiming for CLB 7 in French can open a pathway where recent CRS cut-offs have been considerably lower than CEC requirements.

If You Work in Healthcare, Trades or Transport

Check whether your occupation is included in one of IRCC's current category-based selection streams.

Make sure your NOC code, work experience and other eligibility requirements match the relevant category.

Remember that the qualifying work-experience requirement has increased to 12 months for the renewed categories.

It is better to prepare your profile before a draw takes place rather than trying to become eligible after the draw is announced.

If You Are Considering a Provincial Nomination

A provincial nomination can add 600 CRS points to your Express Entry profile.

For candidates with a connection to Alberta, the AAIP may be worth exploring. The July 20 PNP draw showed how powerful the additional 600 points can be.

If Your CRS Is Above 507 and You Have Canadian Experience

The CEC pathway continues to be relatively consistent, with recent cut-offs generally staying in the 507–518 range.

Keep your language test valid and make sure your Express Entry profile remains accurate and up to date.
