Garjiya Devi Temple: Jim Corbett National Park

The largest Corbett Tiger Reserve, known as Project Tiger, is located in Uttarakhand's Nainital area and includes Jim Corbett National Park. Mythological Story of Garjiya Devi Temple

Very few people were aware of this temple until 1940. The goddess was known as Upta Devi (Upardayun) during the time. When the Kosi River flooded badly in 1956, all of the temple's idols were carried away, where Pt. Purnachandra Pandey, the temple's current priest, renovated the structure in 1970 after making significant efforts. To maintain the temple, a committee was established in 1971. The Archaeological Department estimates that these idols date from the 11th and 12th centuries, about 800-900 years ago.

At the time, the people thought that the hill where the current Garjiya temple is situated was flowing from the upper region somewhere in the Kosi River flood. When Bhairav Dev saw the temple placed along the hills, he attempted to stop it by saying, "Thi rau, baina thi rau," which translates to "stay, sister stay," and "reside here with me." The god has been living in Upta in Garjiya ever since. People have frequently spotted the lion while walking around this hill.

Garjiya Devi Temple Ramnagar Infrastructure

Origin of Garjiya Devi Mandir, which was constructed as a temple in 1940 only, located 12 kilometers away from Ramnagar. This temple was first found in 1840 by the rulers of Ramnagar, Katyuri, and has since been protected and rebuilt multiple times by the temple organization, providing an excellent infrastructure in light of the growing number of visitors each year. Archaeological surveys and other research on Naintial's history show that the Indraprastha culture gradually impacted the Dhikuli people.
