Early Life of Wayne Gretzky

Wayne Douglas Gretzky was born on January 26, 1961, into the family of Phyllis Leone and Walter Gretzky. Wayne’s father played a significant role in his early development as a hockey player. Walter built a backyard rink for Wayne and his siblings to practice on, which became the birthplace of his skating skills. At just 6 years old, he was already a star player in novice hockey, even competing with boys aged 10 and 11. He continued to improve and play in organized leagues for his age group.
