A stricter norm exists for liquids, aerosols and gels on American Airlines. Commonly known as American Airlines 311 rule, it applies to all commodities which are not solid. A few examples of such items include deodorants, sprays, face wash gels etc. They will be allowed only if they are in 3.4 oz or 100 ml containers. Here are a couple of things you need to be aware of about 3.1.1.

How to pack a carry-on with American Airlines?
Items you pack in the carry-on shouldn’t pose a threat. So, avoid all hazardous items. This means no pointed or sharp items. But anything with lithium-ion batteries should be packed in carry-on. Electronic vapes should be packed in the carry-on. Your smart bag, which doesn’t have detachable batteries, may not be allowed. Here are some tips for packing a carry-on.

• Blenders – Only if the blade has been removed and kept in a checked bag, wrapped securely to prevent injury.
• Bottled Water – Not permitted in carry-on if it exceeds 100 ml.
• Chocolate (Liquid) - Not permitted in carry-on if it exceeds 100 ml.
• Coffee (Liquid) - Only if it is less than 3.4 oz.
• Conditioner - Only 100ml is permitted.
• Cream - Not exceeding 3.4 oz. per container.
• Creamy dips & spreads - Within 100 ml in each container.
How much liquid is allowed on American Airlines?
The combined quantity of the non-solid or American Airlines carry on liquid should not exceed 1 litre. The commodities which will not qualify also include pastes, creams or gels. Anything which is wobbly and requires a container. A quick recap of the essential parts of the 3:1:1 rule.
• Container Size: Each individual container cannot exceed 3.4 oz. (100 ml).
