How Do I Back Up QuickBooks Desktop Company Files?

  6. Click Next.
  7. Open the Local Backup Only section
  8. Click Browse.
  9. Select where you want to save your backup file.
  10. Set the number of backups.
  11. Access the Online and Local Backup section.
  12. Select Complete verification.
  13. It ensures your backup files are good to save.
  14. When you're ready, click OK.
  15. Choose Save it now and schedule future backups, then click Next.
  16. If you don’t wish to save a backup now, then choose Only schedule future backups.
  17. Checkmark this: Save backup copy automatically when I close my company file.
  18. Then, specify how often you want backups to occur.
  19. To create a backup schedule, select New.
  20. Fill in the required fields.
  21. You can set a specific time or day of the week for backups.
  22. After setting your schedule, click OK.
  23. QuickBooks will prompt you to enter your Windows sign-in password to allow it to run the scheduled backup.
  24. When you're ready, select Finish.
  25. The program will create a backup and also schedule future backups.
  26. A confirmation message will be there when it is done.

Back-Up Your Company File Manually

  1. In QuickBooks, go to the File menu.
  2. Select Switch to Single-user Mode.
  3. Again, navigate to the File menu.
  4. Hover over Back Up Company.
  5. Choose Create Local Backup.
  6. In the new window, select Local Backup.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Open the Local Backup Only section.
  9. Click Browse.
  10. Choose the location.
  11. Save your backup company file.
  12. Set the number of backups.
  13. Access the Online and Local Backup section and set backup reminders.
  14. Ensure your backup file is in good condition before you save it.
  15. When you're ready, click OK.
  16. Select Save it now.
  17. Then click Next.
  18. You'll receive a confirmation message when it's done.
