Books, it would seem, are harmless gateways to fascinating worlds that can educate and broaden horizons, improve literacy and vocabulary. Today, people read so much that they prefer not to buy books, but to read online or download from Z-lib. However, several book phobias can make you afraid of the very sight of books and the sounds that arise when interacting with them. The nature of their occurrence has not been fully studied, and phobias themselves do not interfere with everyday life. However, they can manifest themselves in unobtrusive fear and even a feeling of anxiety.
Bibliophobia is one of the most mysterious and, at the same time, rare phobias that can occur when interacting with books and even with the mere thought of reading. Fear manifests itself when thoughts arise about reading certain books and in the process of reading specific works. At the same time, the phobia does not apply to absolutely all books and does not affect the ability to learn. For example, people suffering from bibliophobia can easily read science fiction and fantasy but avoid horror stories that describe bloody scenes and violence in detail.
Fear of long words and sentences is also quite rare. People with this phobia can read any books, but they try to avoid long words that they do not understand and cannot be easily read the first time. At the same time, the name of the phobia is so long that is frightening- hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia.
It is worth noting that the fear of long and complex words and sentences can be treated even on your own. It is enough to break them down into certain syllables or separate parts and decipher them one by one, thus revealing the general meaning. Fear of paper
Papyrophobia manifests itself in the fear of paper, including books, notebooks, encyclopedias and textbooks. It can also extend to paper postcards and notes. The fear is the fear of cutting oneself on thin and sharp paper, causing pain to oneself. The phobia is quite treatable, but requires full professional therapy under the supervision of a specialist.
Metrophobia is the fear of poetry. Experts note that many people develop it in childhood when teachers and parents force the child to memorize complex and incomprehensible poems. In adults, the phobia is transformed and represents a fear of poetry as something overly sublime, arrogant and incomprehensible, divorced from everyday reality. A striking example of a creative approach to the study of poetic works is described in the novel “Dead Poets Society”.
The phobia was originally described by the writer Paul Dixon. However, with the popularity of his work, the phobia has acquired a completely official character and is found in a considerable number of ardent book lovers. Many book lovers seriously fear that they will not be able to devote at least a little time to books every day, and a trip on public transport is one of the few openings in the modern rhythm of life.
