LED projectors use LED lamps as the light source. LED lights work on a process called electroluminescence to produce light. In source lamps, electricity passes through the semiconductor material from which LEDs are made. This allows a certain type of energy to pass through them. When an electrical energy passes through a material, it gives off electrons that are too large to pass through. They contract and release protons which constitute the particle of light.

This process generates a much smaller amount of heat than conventional gas-filled lamps. This prolongs the life of an LED lamp as compared to regular lamps.

In LED projectors, there are arrays of red, green and blue LEDs. They are arranged in combinations to give very precise white light. This light is then reflected onto hundreds of tiny mirrors. In other words, the working of LED projector is similar to that of LCD and DLP projectors except the lamps used.
