Poultry reared for meat is called broiler. Chickens are also raised for eggs. On an average, a hen lays 180 to 270 eggs in a year. The hatched chick begins to lay eggs at the age of 5 to 6 months, laying eggs for about 3 years. Chickens are reared for broiler meat and eggs in the poultry farm.
