What is wide area network

Wide area network allows long transmission of data, voice, image and video. A WAN is larger than a MAN network. WANs are used to transfer data across large geographic areas, such as countries, continents, or the entire world. For example, the Internet is the largest WAN, computers are connected to the WAN using a public network, such as telephone lines, satellites, and leased lines.
