How did Responsive Web Design get started?

With the increase in the number of users of smartphones and mobile devices, a problem came that web designers could not show a fixed-width website correctly on different size screens.

Firstly, to deal with this problem, web designers found a way in which separate sites were created for desktop and mobile devices.

But even this path was not that easy, creating different versions for every screen sizes and resolutions was absolutely impossible.

If different versions of a website were made then its maintenance cost would also increase and separate sites would have to work hard for promotion and SEO ranking.

Finally in 2010 to solve all these problems a web designer Ethan Marcotte invented a new way of website design which he named Responsive Web Design (RWD).
