Computer cannot do anything on its own unless some instruction is given to it.

It is the computer program or software that tells the computer what to do and how to work. That is, your computer cannot do anything without any program or software. Computer program is also called software or computer application.

Actually a computer program is a set of many instructions that tell the computer how to do a task. Microsoft word, browser, movie player etc. are all examples of computer programs. Similarly, operating system is also a type of software that operates your entire computer.
