The World Wide Web was invented in 1989 by Tim Berners Lee, a British computer scientist, when he was a software engineer at CERN. He was working in a project called 'Enquire' in which he had to create a database of the people working in that organization.

While working in the project, he realized that it is very difficult to manage the information as the data was stored in different computers and different programs, so it was a difficult task to centralize the data and store it in one place.

To deal with this problem, the concept of hypertext came in his mind.
