Search queries which are either one word or not more than two words are referred as a short tail keyword. For example "SEO" or "Digital Marketing" is a short tail keyword consist of only one or two words. These keywords are highly competitive and is very tough to rank. So , if you want to rank your article in less time then it is recommended to target long tail keyword.
Long tail keywords consist of more than 2 words. For example "Digital Marketing Course in Kolkata".

These are keywords made up of one or two words which can be very common keywords. Eg: Flower, Dog image, PC games etc. They are very less specific.

People search for these types of keywords a lot on Google and if your website is ranked on these keywords then you can get a lot of traffic.

But it is not an easy task to rank on such keywords because there is a lot of competition on them. So if you are a new blogger or your website is new, then you should focus on long-tail keywords instead of short-tail keywords.
