A bit (binary digit) is the smallest unit of data in a computer. It is a binary value, either 0 or 1. And there is a big difference between a byte, 1 byte is much larger than 1 bit – eight times as big, in fact, there are eight bits in each byte. Every letter, number or special symbol pressed with the keyboard is stored in ASCII code in the computer's memory. Each ASCII code is of 8 bytes, thus, to store any character in memory, 8 bits make up 1 byte.
