It displays a small high brightness cathode ray tube (hence the projector being called a CRT, cathode ray tube projector).
The first color CRT projectors were invented in the early 1950s. In this type of projector, the red, green and blue portions of the video signal are arranged and sent to separate CRTs, whose images are then focused by the projector lens to obtain a composite image.
Other technologies like LCD projectors, DLP projectors, LED projectors are now used for cost, effectiveness and convenience. Nowadays CRT projectors are rarely seen.
