On the front of the DVD ROM drive is a tray that accepts DVDs. It has an eject button that opens the tray. The eject button is also used to close the DVD tray DVD ROM drives also have a manual eject button. The volume control is also located on the front of the DVD drive. A port is also available for connecting a microphone.

There is also an LED indicator which displays the status of the DVD drive by light. The rear panel of a DVD player contains individual ports for connecting a DVD drive to a computer. DVD drives use a SATA or IDE interface to connect to a computer.
