in books, we do have an index page, where we have chapters, and subchapters letting us know, how and where to find content.
Breadcrumbs are same way , help search engines as well users to know how to found content and also navigation for user around a blog.. you may see like

Home > Web > WordPress Blog

the symbols may be different than arrows, but order stays same. Here it shows, the article WordPress Blog is under Web Category. So by clicking web category, we can quickly find all articles, under this category. Same way, search engine use this to order content and show based on relevance in search pages.

Thanks

**Breadcrumbs **are a navigation aid that allows users to see the path they have taken to get to the current page. They are typically displayed as a hierarchy of links at the top of a page, with the current page being the last link in the hierarchy.
For example, on an e-commerce site, the breadcrumb trail might look like "Home > Clothing > Women's Clothing > Dresses" if the user is currently viewing a page for women's dresses. This helps users understand their current location within site and allows them to easily navigate back to a previous page.
Breadcrumbs are important for SEO because they help search engines understand the structure of your website and the relationships between pages. They also make it easier for users to navigate your site, which can improve the overall user experience and increase the likelihood that they will stay on your site longer.

Breadcrumbs are a type of navigational aid used in websites and web applications to enhance user experience and improve SEO. They are typically a series of links that show the path a user has taken to reach a specific page, displayed in a horizontal manner, usually near the top of the page. Breadcrumbs can look something like this:

Home > Category > Subcategory > Current Page

Importance of Breadcrumbs for SEO
Improved User Experience: Breadcrumbs help users understand their location within the website and navigate back to higher-level pages easily. This reduces bounce rates and keeps users engaged longer.

Enhanced Site Navigation: By providing a clear path back to the home page or other main categories, breadcrumbs make it easier for users to explore more content, potentially increasing page views.

Lower Bounce Rates: Better navigation and user experience can lead to lower bounce rates. Users are less likely to leave the site if they can easily find their way around.

Better Indexing by Search Engines: Breadcrumbs provide search engines with a clear structure of the site’s hierarchy, which can improve the crawling and indexing process. This helps search engines understand the relationship between different pages.

Rich Snippets in SERPs: When properly implemented with structured data, breadcrumbs can appear in Google’s search results as rich snippets. This not only improves visibility but also provides users with quick navigation links directly from the search results.

Keyword Optimization: Breadcrumbs can be an opportunity to include relevant keywords in the navigation path, which can subtly enhance the site's relevance for those terms.

Improved Click-Through Rates (CTR): Breadcrumbs in search results can attract users to click through to your site because they provide a clear, hierarchical structure that can be appealing and informative.
