The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a European Union (EU) law that has come into force on May 25, 2018 for all website owners and bloggers. Under the GDPR, EU citizens can gain control over their personal data and keep them safe.

If after May 25, 2018, online businesses that do not comply with GDPR compliance will be fined €20 million, or 4% of the company's annual global revenue. For this reason, it has become a very popular topic among businesses around the world.

The main purpose of GDPR is to protect personal data information of users and personal data includes – name, emails, physical address, IP address, health information, income, etc.

The European Union comprises 28 member states and under GDPR compliance companies can keep European Union user data for 6 years, after which it will have to be deleted.
