What is CD

CD or Compact Disk is a special type of disc on which data is written only once and then it can be read many times. The function of CDs was to store only digital audio recordings, but then they were used to store all kinds of data.

The work of reading data from a CD is done by a special device, which is called a CD-ROM drive. Laser technology is used to write and read data on CDs, hence they are also called optical discs.
